Award winning Irish saxophonist Alexander Mathias has been performing, composing and producing music for over 20 years. Since graduating as a scholar from Berklee College of Music in 2006 he has gone on to perform around the globe as a saxophonist playing with the likes of Amy Winehouse, The Commitments, Shane MacGowan (of The Pogues) and many more, leading him to perform in a huge variety of styles.
As a bandleader he has performed extensively around Ireland, US and beyond with his own groups the Alex Mathias Quartet, The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra and Save Ferris. He has recently finished up a World Tour with Mexican Pop artists Gloria Trevi and Alejandra Guzman. They performed over 70 dates around the USA, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador that included venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Staples Center, Madison Square Garden and Mexico City Arena. He appears with The Red Line Horns on the Billboard Top 10 Latin Pop Charts with the CD/DVD “Versus Tour: Gloria Trevi vs Alejandra Guzman Live at Mexico City Arena”. With Save Ferris, Mathias has performed extensively around the US and internationally in Mexico and Canada. He recorded, wrote and arranged music for the Save Ferris “Checkered Past” EP on which he also performs saxophone. Save Ferris were featured live on Fox 11’s Good Day LA and has also received critical acclaim through reputable magazines such as OC Weekly on which they appeared on the front cover. His jazz album with the Alex Mathias Quartet “Goin’ Roamin’” has also been played globally to critical acclaim and they have been invited to play at some of the most reputable concert venues in Ireland as well as internationally such as The Muesterland Festival in Germany.
As a composer, Alexander Mathias has been very prolific in the world of TV, Film and Commercials. He is credited as additional composer on the critical acclaimed Netflix show “The Mortified Guide” and his compositions have also appeared in several TV shows both in the USA and internationally. These include “Vintage Flip”, “Your Business” as well as writing for the 2016 Olympics coverage. His music has been played on TV and Radio around the world including Japan, Brazil, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Ireland.
As a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist (saxophones, clarinet, flute, tin whistle, piano, bass, guitar and vocals), Mathias performs and programs everything on his original music and has written, produced and recorded over 1000 songs and compositions. Mathias currently works out of his home studio in Los Angeles, CA, teaching saxophone as well as writing and recording music everyday.
